The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) estimates that nearly 70% of firefighters in the United States are volunteers. Elbert Fire Protection District relys heavily on its volunteer members to be the community's first line of defense for many types of emergencies, including but not limited to fires, emergency medical incidents, vehicle accidents and general public service calls. Elbert Fire Protection District responds to both fire and medical emergencies and transports to various hospitals in the Denver and Colorado Springs Metro areas. Elbert Fire Protection District responds to approximately 200 calls each year.
There are many important reasons to consider becoming a volunteer firefighter. As a volunteer member of Elbert Fire Protection District, you will develop awareness and insight into the fire service and receive valuable training towards becoming a long term member of the emergency services team.

Requirements for Becoming a Probationary Volunteer Member
- Applicant must be at least 18 years of age
- Applicant must be a citizen of the United States
- Applicant will undergo a criminal background check
- Applicant must submit a completed volunteer membership application, including ALL information and documents requested
